We at Lawtons Africa, have collaborated with Imbali Visual Literacy Programme, a venture dedicated to supporting artists and uplifting their craft through education, resources, and community initiatives.

About Imbali Visual Literacy Programme

The Imbali Visual Literacy Programme has long been a beacon of hope for emerging artists, providing training and development opportunities to individuals passionate about visual arts. With a mission to empower communities through the arts, Imbali equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the creative industry successfully.

The Collaboration

The partnership with Lawtons Africa is rooted in a shared vision of empowering artists and fostering sustainable livelihoods. This collaboration has unlocked numerous opportunities for artists to develop their trade, gain exposure, and contribute to the broader cultural landscape.

Impact on Artists and Communities

The collaboration has had a transformative effect on both artists and the communities they belong to. Through their involvement with Imbali and Lawtons Africa, many artists have been able to turn their passion into viable careers, while also contributing to cultural preservation and innovation with a strong focus on Africa. One of those individuals is Sizwe Hendrik designed our Tote bags for our graduate programme
Participants have successfully launched small businesses, created employment opportunities, and enriched local economies. Moreover, the emphasis on visual literacy has empowered individuals to use art as a tool for storytelling and activism, amplifying their voices on issues that matter.

Looking Ahead

As the partnership continues to grow, the focus remains on sustainability and innovation. Plans are underway to expand the reach of the programme by fostering further collaborations with other stakeholders and awareness programmes through the Lawtons Africa Pro-Bono Team.

The collaboration between Lawtons Africa and the Imbali Visual Literacy Programme is a testament to what can be achieved when businesses and community organisations unite for a common cause. By supporting artists and investing in creative education, this partnership not only uplifts individuals but also strengthens the cultural fabric of society as a whole.

In the words of the Imbali Project Director, Justine Watterson:

'Imbali is honoured to partner with Lawtons Africa in empowering unemployed youth through craft and business skills training. This collaboration enhances skills development while providing vital income for Imbali students and graduates.'

Together, Lawtons Africa and Imbali Visual Literacy Programme are proving that art has the power to transform lives, inspire change, and bring communities together.
